Dean Wise RailState Headshot

Quincy, Massachusetts (March 14, 2023)

RailState, the rail industry’s only provider of real-time rail network visibility, announced that Dean Wise has joined the company’s board of advisors. Wise is an expert at deploying transformational technologies to enhance supply chain efficiency and the founder of Dean Wise LLC, a strategy advisory firm serving the transportation, logistics, infrastructure, and geospatial sectors.

Wise previously served as Vice President, Network Strategy at BNSF, where he oversaw the company’s strategy process, transformational technology initiative, regional franchise development (including western Canada), shortline network, public-private partnerships, rail line sales and dispositions, and development of right-of-way for non-freight rail uses including fiber optics, cell towers, and electric transmission lines.

“In my 45 years working in transportation and logistics, quality data for effective planning has always been limited,” Wise said. “RailState adds a new dimension to supply chain visibility, providing unique insights for multiple stakeholders. I’ve been impressed with what John, Jamie, and their team have been able to accomplish in such a short time – It’s an exciting time to get involved with RailState.”

Prior to his 7 years at BNSF, Wise had 32 years of consulting and industry experience. From 1995 to 2010, he served as president and managing partner at Norbridge, Inc., a management consulting firm focusing on the freight transport and logistics industry, based in Concord, MA. Before joining Norbridge, Wise was a vice president at Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman), and previously held management positions at Conrail Corporation and Southern Pacific Transportation Company.

Wise also serves on the boards of the University of Denver Transportation and Supply Chain Institute, the American Geographical Society, and Precision Terminal Logistics.

“We are thrilled to have Dean join RailState’s advisory board,” said John Schmitter, RailState’s co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer. “Dean is an innovative thinker and first rate strategist. He understands the challenges our customers and stakeholders face and the transformational impact the right technology can have on their businesses.”

Wise joins other experienced operators on RailState’s advisory board, including Steve Holland, Mike Lambert, and Abudi Zein.

Steve Holland brings more than 30 years of technology and business experience, and has held multiple C-Level roles at Fortune 50 companies, including Chief Information Officer roles at Pacific Gas & Electric and 7-Eleven Inc.

Mike Lambert has over 30 years of successful Executive (C-Suite) and Board Leadership in Canadian public and private companies, across various industries, including Canadian Pacific Railway (as CFO), Calgary Co-op, Canadian Tire, the George Weston Loblaw Group (Real Canadian Superstores), The Southam Newspaper Group (The National Post), Mark’s Work Wearhouse, The Forzani Group (Sport Chek), Parkland Fuel Corporation, Yellow Pages Group, and Premium Brands Inc.

Abudi Zein is co-founder at AZA-Soyul, where he focuses on curating, interpreting, and customizing data sets, to assess reputation and operational risks associated with companies’ environmental impact. Prior to co-founding AZA-Soyul, Zein co-founded ClipperData, a pioneer in the field of tracking the flow of goods and commodities.
