Chart of Trains from the US and Canada since February 1

RailState, the industry’s only provider of rail network intelligence independently monitors cross-border train movements in real-time. 

With tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico set to start on March 4, we’re monitoring the impacts to the rail supply chain as they happen. 

Train Volumes

Canada – US

There has been increased train activity from Canada into the US in recent days. Volumes are up 14% from the 30-day average.

Northbound volumes from the US have also increased, up 4%. 

Mexico – US

Train volumes through the souther border have been more in line with recent averages. 

Over the past three days, train volume from the US into Mexico is unchanged from the 30-day average. 

Train volumes from Mexico to the US are up slightly (+7%).

Autoracks

Canada – US

Autorack volumes from Canada have surged in recent days. Over the past three days, daily volume is 48% above the 30-day average.

Volumes into Canada from the US have also increased, up 11%.

Mexico – US

Volumes across the Mexico-US border are also up recently, but lower than volumes through the northern border.

Autoracks from the US into Mexico are 17% above the recent average, and volumes from Mexico are up 9%.
